Babysitting

Babysitting is a big challenge, but it can also be fun - if the sitter is properly prepared.

Babysitters with safety training offer better service and their credentials can put parents at ease when leaving their kids at home.

Our Babysitters Safety Training Course offers youth at least seven hours of classroom learning, with each session covering an important area of babysitting. Students are required to actively participate and understand the great stress placed on safety.

The course discusses responsibilities of all parties involved in the process, from the sitter to the sitter's parents to the employer. Students learn about the basics of childcare from infant to school-age. The course also covers the different types of behaviour students can expect from various age groups.

General first aid, first aid procedures and rescue breathing are also covered.

Future babysitters learn about the common causes of fire and proper procedures to take in case of one. Instructors also discuss safe toys and examples of simple games and activities.

Students must be 12 years of age and are required to complete four hours of practical experience and pass a written examination.

Safety Services Manitoba does not offer the Babysitting course, but rather distributes course materials to groups wishing to sponsor a training program.
