MISI Research and Development

MISI - Fruits of labour for the labour force

Our work on MISI began in January 2007 and was completed in six months. MISI conducted extensive primary and secondary research during this phase to determine the challenges, barriers, needs and resources available to immigrant workers, employers, and community agencies that serve immigrant populations.

Primary research included discussions with hundreds of people from all three segments involved. The secondary research scanned international, national and provincial literature, research and programs related to immigrant worker health and safety. These findings are documented in a literature review and best practices document.

Manitoba Immigrants' Safety Initiative finished its second phaes of work in early 2009 and shared the fruits of its labours at June events in Morden/Winkler, Steinbach, Brandon and Winnipeg.

All four MISI Resource Sharing Events were well-attended. Each event featured presentations from Mike Waite, President and CEO of Safety Services Manitoba, and representatives of other MISI partners. Presenters offered tips and advice for using MISI resources to improve immigrant safety in the workplace.
