Motorcycle Safety Training

Operating a motorcycle requires a whole new set of safety skills to avoid a mishap or collision.

Whether you’re a seasoned rider or just starting out, Safety Services Manitoba’s courses provide valuable information to help you stay safe on your bike and on the road.

Courses

Motorcycle Training

Students should consider their level of ability when choosing a course. A 21-hour program is the leading course for training novice riders, while an 8-hour course is the minimum requirement for achieving a Class 6 licence in Manitoba.

Both courses include:

Motorcycle dynamics (balance, control and steering)
Collision avoidance
Braking techniques
Appropriate riding attire

A 6M motorcycle license is required to take any SSM motorcycle course.

MPI provides a $200 rebate on registration for the 21-hour course when you complete the course successfully and pass the final skills test.

3-Wheeled Motorcycle Training

SSM has developed a new motorcycle training course for three-wheeled motorcycle riders. This is an 8-hour course that provides safety information and practical hands-on training.

Students must provide their own motorcycle, vehicle registration, a safety certificate and pass an inspection before the course begins. This course is restricted to Trikes and Spyders. Contact us for alternate arrangements if you cannot provide your own three-wheeled motorcycle.

Re-Testing Opportunities

For the 2011 motorcycle training season, we have introduced two re-testing options for students who complete the 21-hour or 8-hour motorcycle programs but fail the final test. You must arrange your re-test within 30 days of completing the course.

Re-Test only - $50 + GST
Take the test a second time under the supervision of SSM instructors.

4-Hour Refresher and Re-Test - $160 + GST
Complete a 4-hour practical refresher to hone your skills before re-taking the test.

You may complete each option once before you must re-take the full course.

Class 6 Instructor Development

Share the ride by becoming a motorcycle trainer. Our Class 6 Instructor Development Course will give you the skills and in-depth knowledge to instruct new riders and help experienced riders upgrade their skills. The 52-hour course includes 20 hours of in-class evening sessions and 32 hours of hands-on weekend sessions. Participants must have held a class 6 licence for at least three years. Graduates are eligible to be part of SSM's motorcycle training team.
