Motorcycle Training FAQ

Safety Services Manitoba offers MPI-certified motorcycle training.

 

Student often have questions about the course. The most frequently asked questions are answered below.

 

Is the course still offered if it is raining or cold?

Yes. Rain or shine, you will learn how to ride a motorcycle!

Do you provide the motorcycle?   

Yes. SSM provides a top-of-the-line fleet of motorcycles for students to train and practice their skills.

Do I need a licence to take this course?

Yes.  you must obtain a Class 6 M (Training) licence from MPI to take the course.

Do I need to bring riding gear?

Yes.  all students must provide their own riding gear, including:
  • A sturdy jacket and pants (jeans and a leather or denim jacket)
  • Eye protection
  • Sturdy boots that cover the ankle
  • Leather gloves
  • DOT or Snell approved helmet
your riding gear must be inspected and approved by the instructor at the first session.

I’m under 18. Do I need a parent to accompany me?

Only to the first session.  If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must sign a waiver for you to participate in the training course.

Can I pay with a personal cheque?     

Unfortunately, SSM does not accept personal cheques. We happily accept certified cheques, money orders, cash and credit cards.

Can I cancel my registration?     

Yes, but you must pay a cancellation fee. Our motorcycle courses are very popular, and we often have a waiting list. Cancellations and transfers are available only in case of emergency.

What is included in the 21-hour course?


The 21-hour course includes 4 hours of classroom instruction and 17 hours of practice on a motorcycle.
