Putting the Brakes on Road Skidding

As part of its commitment to road safety, Safety Services Manitoba has invested in a state-of-the-art Skid machine. The Skid Car is a machine that teaches drivers how to control their vehicles in various driving conditions such as black ice, gravel roads and hydroplaning.

 

On September 23, Safety Services Manitoba held a Skid Car Exhibition for City Officials, the Winnipeg Police, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, media and other corporate representatives from organizations including Manitoba Hydro, Manitoba Lotteries and the Canadian Road Safety Youth Committee. Participants had the opportunity to test-drive the vehicle with a qualified instructor who talked them through proactive and reactive techniques to prevent road skids in stimulated skidding situations.

 

The Skid Car is used in the Winter/All Season Driving training course that is available through SSM.
