Ready for Winter Driving?
The weather outside is frightful – and that means roads are less than delightful.
With blustery snowfalls and icy streets, getting around Manitoba this time of year can be treacherous. But with proper preparation, caution and some core knowledge and skills, navigating dicey winter roads becomes much easier.
At Safety Services Manitoba, our expert trainers are here to help with that.
Our Winter Driving course aims to improve winter driving skills using hands-on, practical lessons on winter driving basics, evasive techniques for skid control and ice, and winter road conditions.
Designed for professionals whose jobs take them on the road more often than not, Winter Driving is a reputed, carefully developed resource that has helped many Manitoba drivers out of snowy messes.
There are also a few key rules those of us who don’t drive for a living can follow to ensure we protect ourselves from treacherous conditions.
To avoid collisions, always consider road conditions, keep a consistent low speed and avoid sudden or hard braking.
In case you do find yourself in a collision, always stock the trunk with a winter emergency kit including a scraper or brush, shovel, traction aid, booster cables, antifreeze, flashlight, first aid kit, extra clothing and non-perishable food items.
Keep in mind, though, that the best prevention is education.
