Safe Drivers Save Money with New MPI Safety Rating
Last week, Manitoba Public Insurance unveiled its new driver rating system. The new system allows drivers to earn more merits and earn them faster.
- Earn up to 15 merits, increased from a limit of five.
- Earn one merit for each year with no at-fault collisions or traffic convictions, instead of one merit every two years.
The new rating system includes new discounts for good drivers and increased premiums for bad drivers.
- If you have 5 merits and 15 years of no at-fault collisions or traffic convictions, you'll get a 25 per cent reduction in your Autopac premiums and a $25 discount on your licence fee.
- The worst drivers, with 20 demerits in the new system, will pay $2500 once the system is fully phased in.
