Training Materials for Employers
Immigrant workers are twice as likely to have a work-related injury as Canadian-born workers.
New Canadians face unique barriers in the workplace. They may speak English as an additional language or come from countries and cultures that do not place the same emphasis on safety as Canada does. These cultural and language barriers are two key reasons that their injury rate is higher than that of Canadian-born workers.
MISI training materials are design to help you, the employer, fulfil your responsibilities for safety and meet the unique needs of immigrant workers. The resource manuals may be used for individual study or presented in a training session using the accompanying Leader's Guide and PowerPoint presentation.
Building a Safe Workplace Community will:
- Build awareness of how different values and behaviours affect employee safety
- Explain employer, supervisor and employee responsibilities
- Provide suggestions on how to accommodate cultural differences and improve employee safety
- Provide examples of communications behaviours and tips for communicating with a culturally diverse workforce
- Provide recommendations for health and safety training for new Canadians
A Safe Immigrant Workforce for Manitoba will help employers:
- Increase their understanding of the impact of cultural differences on health and safety
- Teach the core elements of workplace health and safety to immigrant workers
- Provide effective health and safety orientation for immigrant workers
