Training Materials for Workers
New Canadians face unique barriers in the workplace.
They may speak English as an additional language or come from countries and cultures that do not place the same emphasis on safety as Canada does. These cultural and language barriers are two key reasons that immigrant workers are twice as likely to have a work-related injury as Canadian-born workers.
Building a Safe Workplace Community aims to help new Canadians:
- Understand why safety is important in the Canadian workplace
- Understand their rights and responsibilities and their employer's responsibilities for safety
- Know what to expect when they enter the Canadian workplace
- Stay safe at work
Building a Safe Workplace Community is available in Canadian Language Benchmarks 5 and 7 for people who speak English as an additional language. The resource manuals may be used for individual study or as part of a training session, with the accompanying Leader's Guide and PowerPoint presentation.
Building a Safe Workplace Community is also available for
employers.
