What Will Make You Just Slow Down?

Anybody who drives in Winnipeg knows that the speed limit is often treated as a suggestion. That attitude is the target of new, graphic tv ads that are part of the Just Slow Down campaign.

The Winnipeg Police Service says they want to see attitudes to speeding shift, just as attitudes to drunk driving have changed over the past 25 years.

The tv ads are sure to grab the attention of viewers and make them think twice the next time they step on the gas. But raising awareness is just one part of changing attitudes and ultimately behaviour.

SSM has partnered with MPI for many years to provide Responsible Driving, Novice Driver and Defensive Driving workshops. Responsible Driving is aimed at problem drivers. Novice Driver is for new drivers who need a little extra help to become safe drivers. Defensive Driving is for everybody - because we could all use a refresher to stay safe on the road.

SSM's driver training courses tackle the attitudes and habits that lead to near misses and collisions. Our trainers motivate participants to take the next step - from thinking about the consequences of their driving habits to changing their driving habits.

Together, raising awareness and providing training can make our streets safer, one driver at a time.
