Operation Red Nose Provincial Launch 2012

Safety Services Manitoba and Manitoba Public Insurance launched the 2012 Operation Red Nose (ORN) campaign in Manitoba on Friday, November 16.

“Operation Red Nose is a great program. It’s all about keeping Manitobans and their communities safer during the holidays, and that’s something we truly value here at SSM,” says Judy Murphy, President and CEO, Safety Services Manitoba. “We’re also excited to announce a new member of the Operation Red Nose family as we welcome Shilo as our tenth location.”

ORN ensures that both you and your vehicle arrive home safely. The service is provided free of charge but donations are gladly accepted. All money raised supports various youth programs in Manitoba.

“Operation Red Nose is a safe and easy option for people who are planning on consuming alcohol during the holiday season,” said Attorney General Andrew Swan, minister responsible for Manitoba Public Insurance. ”Manitoba has tough laws to take on impaired driving. It is simply unacceptable to drink and get behind the wheel. This program ensures people can enjoy the holidays with friends and family while keeping our streets and community safe.”

Holding the reins of the program is Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI), the founding provincial partner and local chapter sponsor of Operation Red Nose in Manitoba.

“Reducing the number of alcohol-related deaths and injuries on Manitoba roadways is a major priority of our corporation,” says MaryAnn Kempe, vice-president Community and Corporate Relations, Manitoba Public Insurance.

“Operation Red Nose is an excellent example of committed volunteers working together to make a difference in their community.”

Manitoba Telecom Services is once again providing telecommunications for the program throughout the province. In Winnipeg, MTS cell phone users can simply dial #NOSE for Red Nose service.

Operation Red Nose opens for service in Winnipeg and most other communities on Friday, November 30 from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. and wraps up on New Year’s Eve. Other participating Manitoba communities are Arborg/Riverton, Brandon, Flin Flon, Gimli, Portage la Prairie, Selkirk, Shilo, The Pas and Thompson.
