Students and teachers have been back to school for a while now, and you’ve likely noticed a change in traffic patterns.
There are many things that motorists can do to help protect children on their way to and from school.
- Obey those speed limits – Where signs are posted, on Monday to Friday from 7am to 5:30pm, make sure you’re going no more than 30km/h in a school zone.
- Be cautious and patient – Did you know that it is illegal to pass another moving vehicle in a school area within 15 minutes of the opening or closing of classes? Children are more likely to be on school grounds or crossing the road.
- Pay attention at crosswalks – Pedestrians get the right-of way at marked and unmarked crosswalks.
- Give school buses some space – Children are most at risk when getting on and off the bus. You can help mitigate that risk by driving safely. Brush up on your school bus safety rules.
