Safety Services Manitoba (SSM) acknowledges the systemic racism that led to the tragic deaths of 215 children whose bodies were discovered in an unmarked mass grave at the Kamloops Indian Residential School. We offer our deepest condolences to all Indigenous families and communities affected by the discovery.
We support government and civil society organizations in responding to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Calls for Justice.
We will continue to build cultural safety within our organization and commit to consulting with Indigenous leaders on the appropriate promotion of cultural awareness in our SSM programming and education.
