In this video, Jason Rice, McCaine’s Safety Coordinator, and John Schubert, President, McCaine Electric Ltd. and Vice President, Business Development, Canem Group of Companies, speak about how Safety Services Manitoba has helped them tailor safety training to their specific needs and promote the safety culture throughout their organization.

McCaine Electric Ltd. was established in Winnipeg following the First World War in 1918. Incorporated in 1942, McCaine has grown to be the largest independent electrical contractor in the Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario market. They provide electrical installation, maintenance and services to a large number of clients in the industrial, institutional and commercial markets.

McCaine “test drove” Safety Services Manitoba’s courses and services offerings by purchasing some à la carte training. SSM started out with a needs assessment and found that site-specific and customized safety training would be the best option for McCaine. They were pleased how quickly SSM staff and trainers reacted to their needs and requests.

“To date, we’ve had 140 of our staff go through training at Safety Services Manitoba, and we’ve had about 220 different courses that they’ve taken,” says Jason Rice. “We’ve developed our own McCaine-specific training courses through SSM . . . It’s been a fantastic relationship in that sense.”

Since McCaine started working with SSM, they have experienced a number of improvements – and not just in safety! They’ve also experienced lower rates of absenteeism, increasing their overall productivity and company morale.
