    Leading Indicators as Useful Tools for Managing Safety Culture and Supporting Safety Leadership

    Leadership: Effective Training Programs

    This presentation will go through the essentials of leadership to manage and improve occupational safety and health in your organization. It will provide the key elements of leadership training and take participants through training.


    Dr. Ben Amick is the former Scientific Director of the Institute for Work and Health in Toronto. Currently, he is a Senior Scientist at the Institute for Work and Health and Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management at Florida International University in Miami.

    Dr. Amick has been leading the development of evidence-based leading indicators in Canada. He has developed and implemented a short tool, the Organizational Performance Metric, in multiple jurisdictions and has been working on organizational change projects in contraction and healthcare. He has worked extensively in oil and gas in the United States in both broad scale risk assessment and in ergonomics.

    Currently, Dr. Amick has been working with the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) evaluating their injury and illness prevention audit tool. He is also fascinated with assessing the impact of CORTM and other certification programs on organizational health and safety performance, as well as what knowledge is actually used in managing health and safety in daily work and how best to provide it to managers and employees.
