• Learn from the Best: Canada’s Safest Employers

    What does it take to become one of Canada’s Safest Employers? This session will feature winners of Canada’s Safest Employers Award to share best practices on how to achieve safety culture excellence in your organization. You will have an opportunity to interact with representatives from some of the safest companies in Canada. Presenters will share their insights on overcoming challenges, safety leadership and their journey towards achieving success in their workplace.



    Amanda Silliker is the editor of Canadian Occupational Safety magazine, published by Thomson Reuters. She has held the role for four years and previously worked as an editor on Canadian HR Reporter. Amanda is the project manager for the Canada’s Safest Employers Awards as well as for the magazine’s Safety Leader of the Year award. She travels across Canada hosting sessions like this where award winners can share their expertise and help other companies strive to be the safest in Canada. Amanda has a Bachelor of Journalism, Highest Honours, from Carleton University in Ottawa.

    Patricia Pereira has been with Kenaidan Contracting since 2003, where she has held the position of Health and Safety Manager since 2008. Patricia sits on and participates in various industry committees, influencing legislative change and continuous improvement of health and safety standards for construction. These include the Ontario Provincial Labour-Management Health and Safety Committee (PLMHSC), Carpenter’s Trade/Sector Committee and the Ontario General Contractor’s Health and Safety Committee. Patricia received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and went on to complete the Human Resource Management program at McMaster University. Patricia has also been a Certified Human Resource Leader since 2004.

    Paul Desiri holds a Bachelor of Science in Health and Radiation Physics from McMaster University. He has held various environmental health and safety positions over the past 18 years in the nuclear and healthcare industries, including EHS Specialist, EHS & Quality Leader and Regulatory Compliance Manager. His current position is the Director of Environment, Health and Safety for GE Healthcare Canada. He has been with the company for one and a half years.
