Last week I was mandated to take a Responsible Driver course through Safety Services Manitoba. I wasn’t particularly excited about the prospect of sitting in a classroom for 8 hours. Little did I know that by the end of the day, I was going to experience a complete paradigm shift in the way I would view driving in the future.

I had the pleasure of taking this course from Craig Harrison, a superstar instructor! Craig’s charm and personality, combined with his knowledge and clever delivery of the material, made a real impact on me (and I suspect the other participants in the course, as well).

The biggest eye-opener for me was the “distracted driving” discussion, especially regarding cell phone/Bluetooth usage. I couldn’t imagine how I would be able to give up the pleasures of talking on the phone while in the car. However, I changed my mind after viewing graphic footage of live collisions caused by distracted driving, and their lethal consequences.

I strongly encourage every driver to take this Responsible Drivers course and not wait to be mandated to do so.
