Dennis Meyer

  • Road Safety Trainer

Dennis joined SSM’s Road Safety department in 2004. Dennis is responsible for teaching MPI mandated road safety courses such as Novice Driver, Responsible Driver and Defense Driving. In addition, Dennis teaches occupational training for SSM’s Transportation of Dangerous Goods – Ground course. In his decade of teaching at SSM, Dennis has taught over 5,300 students.

Dennis has over 33 years of experience in the transportation industry and has had his Class 1, 3 Manitoba Instructors Road Safety Permit for 20 years. He has instructed students with both theory and practical training and has helped over 2,000 students achieve a career in the transportation industry.

As he describes, Dennis was raised in the transportation industry and, at the time, the industry didn’t really have safety training standards. However, Dennis believes safety is a main issue everyone should be a part of, whether at home, at work or on the road.

Outside of his work for SSM, Dennis has worked on the Manitoba Trucking Association Education Advisory Committee for five years; deployed safety polices or guidelines for the Provincial government and Red River College; worked on the Voluntary Fire Safety committee at Red River College; and belongs to the Manitoba Mopar Car Club – classic cars, especially muscle cars, are one of his major interests.

Dennis’s main goal is to make the roads safer for everyone and to positively change the driving attitudes of others. In fact, educating the Manitoba public and making the roads safer is one of the reasons Dennis enjoys being a road safety instructor.
