Mike Perry

  • Occupational Safety Trainer and Professional Safety Consultant

    Mike brings a variety of occupational safety experience to his role as Occupational Safety Trainer and Consultant since re-joining the team at Safety Services Manitoba in 2017. He’s no stranger to the services and courses offered at SSM, because from 2005 to 2008 he facilitated classes on a on a multitude of workplace safety issues and procedures for over 1,800 people.

    Mike’s expertise is informed by over 25 years in trades and contracting, with various positions in both Alberta and Manitoba industries. Early in his career, Michael was on the frontlines of potentially high-risk occupations as a builder, a millwright and a foreman/supervisor. His most recent position as a Vocational Instructional Teacher in Lord Selkirk School Division has honed his skills in facilitating courses for all kinds of audiences. This first-hand experience in both occupational safety and education proves incredibly valuable for those interested in courses at SSM.

    Mike has invested in his professional development by seeking out opportunities for continuous improvement. His journey began at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology with his millwright certification, and he has since developed skillsets in hazard recognition and control, asbestos training for maintenance workers, safety and health legislation and practical workshop facilitation. Mike also holds a diploma from the University of Winnipeg and Red River College’s joint Vocational Industrial Teacher Education program.

    Mike feels that working as an Occupational Safety Trainer gives him the opportunity to contribute and give back to the community. As an instructor, he finds it most rewarding to witness people actively participating in bettering their workplaces for everyone involved.

    In his time spent outside of SSM, Mike is an avid outdoorsman who appreciates fishing, cycling and all kinds of mechanical work. His dynamic portfolio and versatile experience proves to be valuable over and over again as he continues to work with his community on improving workplace health and safety practices.
