For over 27 years, Operation Red Nose has helped to get Manitobans – and their vehicles – home safely for the holidays.
Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) has a long and successful history as the founding sponsor of ORN. As a road safety leader in Manitoba, MPI is committed to preventing alcohol and drug related accidents, and to support road safety awareness.
“Operation Red Nose is an important community program for the road safety of Manitoban’s, every holiday season, and we are proud to facilitate this on behalf of Manitoba Public Insurance and our supporting partners,” says Ron Janzen, President and CEO of Safety Services Manitoba.
“The 2024 campaign was the 28th year that Operation Red Nose has run in Manitoba. This was a year with some special challenges due to the withdrawal of legacy supporting organizations and volunteers in a few communities. But communities with new volunteers and new organizations rose to the challenge. We have enjoyed a successful holiday season for the program.”
Operation Red Nose (ORN) is a free, volunteer-run designated driver service that operates during the holiday season. When someone calls ORN, a three-person volunteer driving team picks them and their guests up and drives them home safely – in their own vehicle! Donations are gratefully accepted and support a variety of Manitoba organizations.
“MPI has been a proud supporter of Operation Red Nose for more than two decades,” said Satvir Jatana, President & CEO of MPI. “Local host organizations and volunteers across the province work together to offer this reliable and responsible option to keep our roads safe while getting Manitobans home during the holiday season. We look forward to continuing to support ORN in 2025.”
“We are incredibly fortunate to have MPI’s support, not only with Operation Red Nose but also in our many joint initiatives throughout the calendar year,” said Janzen. “Our goal with this holiday season partnership is to prevent impaired driving accidents in a non-judgmental manner by enabling communities to provide this free and confidential service.”
During the 2024 holiday season, 1,418 volunteers gave 2,210 rides in eight communities across Manitoba, raising just under $50,000 for a variety of youth organizations in the province.
