Winter Road Safety and Preparedness

Winter roads and ice crossings are essential lifelines for many northern and remote Manitoba communities, providing access to vital supplies, services, employment, and travel. However, these routes present unique hazards that demand specialized knowledge, careful planning, and a strong commitment to safety.

The Winter Road Safety and Preparedness Workshop offered by Safety Services Manitoba provides participants with practical knowledge and safety strategies for travelling on winter roads and ice crossings. Topics include understanding winter road conditions, recognizing environmental and vehicle-related hazards, preparing for extreme cold, and making informed decisions when conditions change.

Participants will also explore essential travel planning, vehicle and emergency kit preparedness, safe ice-crossing practices, and emergency response procedures for ice-submersion incidents and cold-water exposure.

Through practical safety guidance and real-world scenarios, this workshop promotes awareness, preparedness, and responsible decision-making to help reduce risks and improve safety when travelling on Manitoba’s winter roads.

Be prepared. Make informed decisions. Travel safely.
